President-elect Donald Trump has said again that the U.S. should own Greenland. He thinks it is important for national security and global freedom.
Trump made this statement while announcing Ken Howery, co-founder of PayPal, as the new U.S. ambassador to Denmark. On Truth Social, Trump said, “The U.S. needs to own Greenland for national security and freedom.”
Trump also said Howery will do a great job representing the U.S. in Denmark.
Trump first showed interest in Greenland in 2019, suggesting that the U.S. buy the island for its resources and strategic location. Danish leaders, including Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, quickly rejected the idea, saying, “Greenland is not for sale.”
Trump dropped the plan during his presidency, but his new comments show he might bring it up again if he returns to the White House.
