Punjab Bans Gatherings During PTI Protests for 2 Days
In Lahore, the Punjab government has banned large gatherings from Friday, October 18, to Saturday, October 19.
This decision was made because of security worries. The government said protests could cause problems and put people’s safety at risk. They also feared protests could become targets for attackers.
PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) declared October 18 as a day to protest against changes to the constitution and the jailing of their leader, Imran Khan.
PTI leaders met on Wednesday and called for peaceful protests after Friday prayers in different areas. They criticized the way Imran Khan is being treated in jail and asked for his basic rights, like seeing his family and lawyers.
They also asked people who support the Constitution to join the protests peacefully. The party also demanded the release of Imran Khan’s sisters, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, and other members who are in jail. PTI promised to fight any changes to the Constitution.
To prevent problems, the Punjab government made Section 144, which bans big gatherings.
Also, the government declared Friday, October 18, a public holiday. All public and private offices, schools, and colleges will be closed.
