The release of the much-anticipated Pakistani movie The Legend of Maula Jatt has been stopped in India because of a court petition. The film, starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, was supposed to be shown in the Indian state of Punjab today. However, a far-right Hindu group opposed the release.
The film’s distributor, Nadeem Mandviwala, explained in an interview that a petition had been filed in an Indian court, which led to the delay. He said, “Unfortunately, the release has been postponed due to legal reasons. We have to wait for the court’s decision.”
The movie was expected to be a big success for the Pakistani film industry in India, but it has faced multiple delays. Mandviwala remains hopeful and believes that when it is finally released, it will be a major success for Pakistani cinema.
In 2016, after the Uri attack, Pakistani artists were banned from working in Bollywood. Both Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan had worked in Bollywood films before, with Fawad in Khoobsurat (2014) and Mahira in Raees (2017).
The Legend of Maula Jatt is a remake of the 1979 classic Pakistani film. It tells the story of the rivalry between the hero Maula Jatt and his enemy Noori Natt. Although the movie’s release has been delayed, there is still hope it will be shown in Indian cinemas in the future, offering cross-border entertainment.
