Zaheer Abbas Calls for Babar Azam’s Dismissal, Criticizes Skipper’s Poor Form

To celebrate the 100th episode of Cricket Predicta, Abbas, known as the “Asian Bradman,” spoke at an event in Ajman, UAE.

Abbas said that if Babar Azam is not scoring runs, he should be taken out of the team. He believes that as the main batsman, Babar should be dropped if he is not playing well.

Abbas made these comments after Babar’s poor scores of 0, 22, 11, and 31 in four innings in Pakistan’s recent Test series against Bangladesh. Because of this, Babar fell out of the ICC top 10 rankings for the first time in many years.

Babar’s form has gotten worse since Pakistan’s early exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they lost to both India and the USA.

Reports say that Babar’s captaincy is being reviewed, and there is talk of replacing him before Pakistan’s tour of Australia in November.

Abbas also said that comparing Babar to India’s Virat Kohli is not fair. He explained, “There’s no point in comparing Virat Kohli to Babar. Kohli scores in every match, but Babar is not scoring, so how can they be compared?”

Pakistan’s first Test match against England in the ICC World Test Championship will be from October 7-11 in Multan. The team for the first Test includes Shan Masood (vice-captain), Saud Shakeel (vice-captain), Aamir Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Huraira, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Noman Ali, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Zahid Mehmood.

The Test series schedule is:

  • 7-11 Oct – First Test, Multan
  • 15-19 Oct – Second Test, Multan
  • 24-28 Oct – Third Test, Rawalpindi
